Welcome to the Website of The Keys, the Catholic Writers' Guild of England and Wales.
The Keys has a full programme for 2006/2007. The current Master of the Guild is Sean O'Connor. We now meet at our new Guild church, St Mary Moorfields, London EC1.
At the June 2006 meeting of the Guild, warm thanks were given to our retiring chaplain, Fr Kit Cunningham, parish priest of St Etheldreda's, Ely Place, where the Guild has met for many years. We are proud of our long association with St Etheldreda's, which dates back to the days when nearby Fleet Street was the centre of Britain's newspaper industry. Guild meetings at St Etheldreda's have brought together some of the leading figures in contemporary English Catholic writing.
At the meeting a commemorative plaque was presented to Father Kit, which will be placed in the crypt where our meetings have been held, to mark the long and happy association between the Catholic Writers' Guild and this famous London church.
Winner of the 2006 Catholic Young Writer Award is Patrick Rutherford, of Shetland. A copy of his essay on "Why we need a Pope" is available on request: send a stamped addressed envelope to: The Keys, Young Writer Award 206, 34 Barnard Gardens, New Malden, KT3 6QG.
